Source: The Fort Collins Water Utilities department wrote a Memorandum
dated April 18, 2001, to the City Manager regarding water fluoridation.
An excerpt (mainly their recommendation) follows:
The Engineering Committee of the Water Board studied the (fluoride) issue
and concluded that the City of Fort Collins should cease fluoridation.
The reasoning was that drinking water is neither a necessary nor appropriate
mechanism for fluoride delivery. The Water Board as a whole adopted this
recommendation. The groups' findings are attached. It is Council's prerogative
to direct the Utilities to either cease or continue fluoridation. Considering
that there may be possible health hazards associated with fluoride, along
with the safety and cost issues, the staff believes it would be prudent
to discontinue fluoridation.
CWA Note: The above recommendation is not posted on the City web site.
